{"id":6294,"date":"2016-06-12T17:55:36","date_gmt":"2016-06-12T21:55:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/english.cpnn-world.org\/?p=6294"},"modified":"2019-10-12T11:09:23","modified_gmt":"2019-10-12T15:09:23","slug":"moas-emergency-ngo-partner-up-to-provide-rescue-and-medical-care-to-migrants-in-the-mediterranean","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/english.cpnn-world.org\/?p=6294","title":{"rendered":"MOAS &#038; EMERGENCY NGO partner up to provide rescue and medical care to migrants in the Mediterranean"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"float: left; width: 46%;\">\n<p>TOLERANCE AND SOLIDARITY .<\/p>\n<p>An article by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.moas.eu\/moas-emergency-ngo-partner-provide-rescue-medical-care-migrants-mediterranean\/\">MOAS, Migrant Offshore Aid Station<\/a><\/p>\n<p>A joint operation by Migrant Offshore Aid Station (MOAS) and EMERGENCY NGO, humanitarian organisation which provides medical care, will leave Malta today [6th June] aboard the Responder, one of the two MOAS\u2019 search and rescue vessels which will patrol the world\u2019s deadliest migrant crossing: the central Mediterranean.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"https:\/\/english.cpnn-world.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/MOAS.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/english.cpnn-world.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/MOAS-300x182.jpg\" alt=\"MOAS\" width=\"300\" height=\"182\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-6295\" srcset=\"https:\/\/english.cpnn-world.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/MOAS-300x182.jpg 300w, https:\/\/english.cpnn-world.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/MOAS-768x466.jpg 768w, https:\/\/english.cpnn-world.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/MOAS.jpg 988w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nClick on photo to enlarge<\/center><\/p>\n<p>The Italian Red Cross will provide post-rescue care aboard the second MOAS boat \u2013 the Phoenix \u2013 which will also set sail today alongside the Responder.<\/p>\n<p>More than 2,510 people have already died in 2016 attempting the crossing: In May, 1,138 people died or went missing in a single week attempting to reach Europe. With today\u2019s launch, more desperate people seeking refuge in Europe will be rescued and given expert medical care.<\/p>\n<p>EMERGENCY NGO will be operating from the MOAS vessel Responder to guarantee the post rescue assistance, in particular medical care and cultural mediation for the rescued migrants. The team is composed by 6 people including doctors, nurses, cultural mediators and a coordinator.<\/p>\n<p>MOAS\u2019 vessels Phoenix and Responder are, respectively, 40-metre &#038; 52 metres long. Hundreds more will continue to die unless we bolster the professional search and rescue effort,\u201d said MOAS founder Christopher Catrambone. \u201cOur partners on board ensure that excellent post rescue care is provided to migrants who have already endured severe trauma\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>So far, the Migrant Offshore Aid Station has saved the lives of over 13,000 people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor more than 20 years, EMERGENCY has been working in war and poverty stricken countries. Thus, we know very well what these people are fleeing from when they take a boat in the attempt to reach Europe\u201d, said EMERGENCY President, Cecilia Strada. \u201cFor two years, we\u2019ve been working at the Sicilian ports offering socio-medical assistance to who lands. And today we are happy to bring our experience and expertise at sea, together with MOAS\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>So far, EMERGENCY NGO has assisted over 20,000 migrants landed in Sicily, with its team working in the ports of Pozzallo, Augusta and Porto Empedocle.<\/p>\n<p>MOAS is a registered foundation consisting of professional search and rescue crew, onshore staff and supported by a global network of supporters. It works to mitigate the loss of life at sea along the world\u2019s deadliest migrant routes because no one deserves to die at sea. Since its inception MOAS has assisted over 13,000 migrants and refugees in distress.<\/p>\n<p>EMERGENCY NGO is an independent organization that provides free, high quality medical and surgical treatment to the victims of war, landmines and poverty and promotes a culture of peace and respect for human rights.
