They don\u2019t have a French teacher for six months. And then we\u2019re asked to pass an exam, and that exam is supposed to be fair. But it\u2019s not fair if you haven\u2019t had a teacher for six months.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jean-Luc M\u00e9lenchon, leader of the left-wing French party , France Insoumise, took to social media on Thursday to celebrate the success of the student demonstrations.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/JLMelenchon\/status\/2108216876455358540\">\u201cThe Bastille has been retaken,\u201d he wrote<\/a>, while posting a video of demonstrators at the July Column in Paris, built to commemorate the Revolution of 1830. \u201cPowerful demonstration by the youth who carry their demands in the most beautiful way possible! Immense pride.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2026\/oct\/08\/france-student-protests-schools-vow-to-continue\">The Guardian reported <\/a> <a href=\"on Thursday that \u00c9douard Geffray, the French education minister, met with students and teachers in the city of Reims and pledged to implement \u201can emergency plan to ensure absent teachers can be replaced on a long-term basis,\u201d and to initiate a review of the university application system.\n\nHowever, high school student union leaders who spoke with The Guardian said they were underwhelmed by the government\u2019s promises so far.\n\nStudent leader Ryad Rani told the newspaper that the demonstrations \u201cwill continue,\u201d accusing the government of offering \u201cno concrete measures whatsoever, no response to our demands.\u201d\n\nSabrine Kharbach similarly said that the protests would not stop \u201cfor as long as \u20ac10 billion hasn\u2019t been put on the table,\u201d a reference to the amount of money organizers say is needed for education investment.\n\nA Paris secondary school teacher identified as Cathy said in an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.euronews.com\/2026\/10\/08\/melenchon-declares-bastille-retaken-after-major-student-rally-in-paris\">interview with Euronews <\/a> that the student revolt had been brewing for a long time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe students have demands that are very close to the ones teachers have been putting forward years,\u201d she explained. \u201cThe system is degraded and it\u2019s because there has been no response for so long, that this is happening.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;  &#8211;  &#8211;  &#8211;  &#8211;  &#8211;<\/p>\n<p>If you wish to make a comment on this article, you may write to coordinator@cpnn-world.org with the title &#8220;Comment on (name of article)&#8221; and we will put your comment on line.
