Believing that a solution to the conflict between Israel and Palestine is the key to peace in the Middle East, CPNN has carried many articles on this subject<\/a>. Increasingly it is recognized <\/a> that the situation resembles the apartheid of South Africa. <\/p>\n

A major contribution to the overcoming of apartheid was the international boycott of South Africa. With that as a model, the BDS movement attempts to overcome the Israeli system of apartheid with “Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions.”

In December, a review of BDS initiatives in 2020 <\/a> reported a growing call for sanctions, including by the\u00a0World Council of Churches\u00a0<\/a> and, in the UK,\u00a0MPs<\/a>, the\u00a0Trades Union Congress<\/a>, and\u00a0prominent artists<\/a>. Another development was the decisions by \u00a0the\u00a0University of Manchester<\/a> to divest from companies doing business with Israel, and calls for similar action by student groups in the United States at\u00a0Columbia University, the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and\u00a0San Francisco State University.
