HUMAN RIGHTS &#8230; . <\/p>\n<p>An article from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amnestyusa.org\/press-releases\/global-human-rights-movement-issues-travel-warning-for-the-u-s-due-to-rampant-gun-violence\/\">Amnesty International<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Amnesty International today <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amnestyusa.org\/our-work\/government-relations\/advocacy\/travel-advisory-united-states-of-america\/\">issued a travel warning <\/a> calling for possible travelers and visitors to the United States to exercise extreme caution when traveling throughout the country due to rampant gun violence, which has become so prevalent in the United States that it amounts to a human rights crisis. It aims to hold up a mirror to the U.S. using the model of the United States Department of State\u2019s travel advice for U.S. travelers to other countries.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"https:\/\/english.cpnn-world.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Amnesty.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/english.cpnn-world.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Amnesty.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"521\" height=\"301\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-16479\" srcset=\"https:\/\/english.cpnn-world.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Amnesty.jpg 521w, https:\/\/english.cpnn-world.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Amnesty-300x173.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 521px) 100vw, 521px\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>\u201cTravelers to the United States should remain cautious that the country does not adequately protect people\u2019s right to be safe, regardless of who they might be. By prioritizing gun ownership over basic human rights, the U.S. government is willfully and systematically failing on multiple levels and ignoring its international obligations to protect people\u2019s rights and safety.<\/p>\n<p>Amnesty International has been calling for common sense reform regarding the use and possession of firearms, including comprehensive background checks, national regulations for registering and licensing firearms, required training, a ban on high capacity magazines\/assault weapons, and mandatory safe-storage laws. Amnesty International USA\u2019s campaign to end gun violence has focused efforts on passing S.42., the Assault Weapons ban, and the Disarm Hate Act.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Background <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A report by Amnesty International, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amnestyusa.org\/reports\/in-the-line-of-fire-human-rights-and-the-u-s-gun-violence-crisis\/\">In the Line of Fire: Human Rights and the U.S. Gun Violence Crisis<\/a>\u201d examined how all aspects of American life have been compromised in some way by the unfettered access to guns, with no attempts at meaningful national regulation.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, Amnesty International <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amnestyusa.org\/reports\/scars-of-survival-gun-violence-and-barriers-to-reparation-in-the-usa\/\">published a report <\/a> examining how survivors of gun violence in the United States suffer years of trauma and pain due to a destructive combination of government policies which ignore their needs.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8230; .
