{"id":15245,"date":"2019-03-01T01:48:33","date_gmt":"2019-03-01T06:48:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/english.cpnn-world.org\/?p=15245"},"modified":"2020-05-16T12:28:07","modified_gmt":"2020-05-16T16:28:07","slug":"english-bulletin-march-1-2019","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/english.cpnn-world.org\/?p=15245","title":{"rendered":"English bulletin March 1, 2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><center><em><big>WHAT IS HAPPENING IN VENEZUELA ?<br \/>\n<\/big><\/em><\/center><\/p>\n<div style=\"float: left; width: 46%;\">\n<p align=\"justify\">\nThe commercial media almost without exception continues to support the United States and dozens of its allies in its attacks on Venezuela.  Hardly a culture of peace!<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">\nIn order to present an alternative to this &#8220;war propaganda,&#8221; we review here a series of articles that give the other side.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">\nWe begin with critiques of the commercial media coverage.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">\nCBS News claims that 82% of the people of Venezuela want President Maduro to quit, but they do not provide a source.  Instead, when we seek <a href=\"https:\/\/english.cpnn-world.org\/?p=15194\">reliable polling data<\/a>, we find that 57% of poll respondents consider that the government of president Maduro, is legitimate and 86 percent would disagree with international military intervention.  A majority are disatisfied with both the government and the opposition, but this is common in many countries now, including the United States.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/english.cpnn-world.org\/?p=15133\">Commercial media in the US, including the New York Times and the Washington Post continue to support a US overthrow of the Venezuelan government<\/a>.  They point to the country\u2019s economic crisis as a justification for regime change, while whitewashing the ways in which the US has strangled the Venezuelan economy.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">\nHere are some of the stories that are not covered by the commercial media, presumably because they do not support the American economic warfare and threat of military intervention<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">\nOn 3 August 2018, the UN General Assembly received a report from their Independent Expert on the Promotion of a Democratic and Equitable International Order, concerning his mission to Venezuela and Ecuador.  <a href=\"https:\/\/english.cpnn-world.org\/?p=15137\">The report criticized the US economic warfare against Venezuela<\/a>, suggesting that it could be prosecuted by the International Criminal Court.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">\nWhile the US, its allies and media claim to be delivering humanitarian aid to Venezuela, the <a href=\"https:\/\/english.cpnn-world.org\/?p=15216\">Red Cross and the United Nations have refused to join in<\/a>.  They express concern that the aid is being offered for political rather than humanitarian reasons.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"float: right; width: 46%;\">\n<p align=\"justify\">\nWhile the US and its allies attacked Venezuala <a href=\"https:\/\/english.cpnn-world.org\/?p=14954\">at the UN Security Council<\/a>, a number of countries objected, including China, Russia, South Africa, Equatorial Guinea, Nicaragua, Cuba and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.  The delegate from Saint Vincent and the Grenadines said, &#8220;The history of Latin America and the Caribbean is indelibly scarred by military interventions and imposition of dictator Governments.\u00a0 The need to triumph over its lingering remnants drives the countries in the hemisphere \u201cto be viscerally abhorrent to any semblance of its re-emergence\u201d.\u00a0 Constitutionally, Venezuela has an elected President in Mr.\u00a0Maduro, but an unconscionable crusade against the legally elected President, orchestrated by OAS, aims to erect a parallel unelected Government.\u00a0&#8221;<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">\nBolivian president <a href=\"https:\/\/english.cpnn-world.org\/?p=15008\">Evo Morales <\/a> wrote that \u201cthe US threats against Venezuela are threats to peaceful coexistence in Latin America, they want to provoke confrontation between brothers with war and violence.\u201d  He accused the US government of seeking that Venezuela \u201cbe devastated and impoverished as Iraq and Libya\u201d, <\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/english.cpnn-world.org\/?p=15003\">The Jamaican Peace Council <\/a> condemned the threat of military intervention by the US and wrote that &#8220;the US has no history of promoting democratic governance in the Caribbean. Cuba in 1961, Grenada in 1983, and Honduras in 2009 are examples of their imperialist intervention and paramilitary violence. We say: \u201cNo more interference and no more coups!\u201d&#8221;<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">\nClose to 700 conferees from 65 countries came to a <a href=\"https:\/\/english.cpnn-world.org\/?p=15126\">conference in Havana, Cuba, <\/a> from January 28-31, for peace and \u201cworld balance.
