{"id":14793,"date":"2019-01-03T14:04:58","date_gmt":"2019-01-03T19:04:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/english.cpnn-world.org\/?p=14793"},"modified":"2019-10-10T02:26:17","modified_gmt":"2019-10-10T06:26:17","slug":"peace-education-among-top-priorities-in-the-new-bangsamoro-government","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/english.cpnn-world.org\/?p=14793","title":{"rendered":"Philippines: Peace Education among top priorities in the new Bangsamoro Government"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"float: left; width: 46%;\">\n<p>EDUCATION FOR PEACE .<\/p>\n<p>An article from the <a href=\"http:\/\/peace.gov.ph\/2018\/12\/peace-education-among-top-priorities-in-the-new-bangsamoro-government\/\">Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cKung gusto natin ng kapayapaan, simulan natin sa silid-aralan\u00a0(If we want peace, let\u2019s start in the classroom).\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This was emphasized by Commissioner Susana Anayatin of the Bangsamoro Transition Commission (BTC) during the sectoral forum on the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) on Wednesday [December 6] here in [Cotabato City].<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"https:\/\/english.cpnn-world.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Bangsamoro.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/english.cpnn-world.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Bangsamoro.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"910\" height=\"619\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-14794\" srcset=\"https:\/\/english.cpnn-world.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Bangsamoro.jpg 910w, https:\/\/english.cpnn-world.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Bangsamoro-300x204.jpg 300w, https:\/\/english.cpnn-world.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Bangsamoro-768x522.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 910px) 100vw, 910px\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Saying the education sector holds a vital role in shaping the minds of the youth, Anayatin urged school officials to support the advocacy for peace provided in the BOL.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Bangsamoro Government shall institutionalize peace education in all levels.\u00a0Sa magiging\u00a0curriculum\u00a0natin,\u00a0i-mainstream\u00a0na iyong\u00a0framework of peace such as respect for human rights, conflict resolution, alternative dispute resolution, and environmental care,\u201d Anayatin said.<\/p>\n<p>In September 2006, then-President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo signed Executive Order 570 which requires elementary and secondary schools all over the country to include peace education in their curriculum.<\/p>\n<p>Anayatin, however, said past administrations failed to fully implement the order especially in public schools.<\/p>\n<p>(Article continued in right column)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"float: right; width: 46%;\">Questions for this article:<\/div>\n<div style=\"float: right; width: 46%;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"float: right; width: 46%;\">\n<p align=\"justify\">\n<p><em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/english.cpnn-world.org\/?p=14405\">Can peace be achieved in Mindanao?<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/english.cpnn-world.org\/?p=6439\">Where is peace education taking place?<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>(continued from left column)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAng karamihan po sa sumunod doon ay\u00a0private schools.\u00a0Sa Bangsamoro, susundin po natin ang kautusan na iyon. Di po iyan bagong kautusan pero inilagay natin sa batas\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>(It was mostly implemented by private schools. In the Bangsamoro, we will follow this order. It\u2019s not a new order but it\u2019s something we placed in the law),\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>Anayatin said this measure will prevent the recruitment of the youth to violent extremist groups.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaraming kabataan ang di nakakapag-aral. Iyong iba naging rebelde, iyong iba naging terorista na ngayon. Iyong nangyari sa Marawi, mga professionals ang ibang nandoon. Bakit? Sapagkat nawawalan na sila ng tiwala sa gobyerno,\u201d Anayatin said.<\/p>\n<p>(A lot of young people are not able to go to school anymore. Some become rebels, others terrorists. Those who laid siege to Marawi included professionals. Why? Because they lost trust in government.)<\/p>\n<p>For his part, Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP) Undersecretary Nabil Tan urged the participants through a video message to maximize the opportunity as they play a vital role in passing on information about the landmark measure.<\/p>\n<p>The same sentiment was shared by Edgar Sumapal, OIC Assistant of Cotabato City Schools Division.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs an educator and school leader, it is incumbent upon us to provide accurate information about the BOL,\u201d Sumapal said.<\/p>\n<p>The forum, which was attended by around 100 officials and administrators from Cotabato City Schools Division, was held to provide updates on the conduct of the plebiscite and shed light on the pressing issues surrounding the BOL.<\/p>\n<p>Among the resource speakers present during the forum were BTC Commissioners Mohagher Iqbal, Maisarah Dandamun-Latiph, Ibrahim Ali, and Atty.
