WOMEN&#8217;S EQUALITY . <\/p>\n<p>An article by By Ophaniel Gooding  in <a href=\"https:\/\/awoko.org\/2018\/11\/01\/sierra-leone-news-womens-movement-reinforces\/\">Awoko<\/a><\/p>\n<p>A two-day national conference with the theme \u201cthe women\u2019s forum we have the woman\u2019s forum we need\u201d concluded with the authoring of a communique by representatives of women\u2019s group nationwide.\u00a0The national conference which was organized by Campaign for Good Governance and the Women\u2019s Forum Sierra Leone is to strengthen and reinforce the \u201cWomen\u2019s Forum Sierra Leone and celebrating our Silver Jubilee of women\u2019s movement,\u201d said Maude R. Peacock the president of Women\u2019s Forum Sierra Leone.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"https:\/\/english.cpnn-world.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/SierraLeone.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/english.cpnn-world.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/SierraLeone.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"469\" height=\"298\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-14186\" srcset=\"https:\/\/english.cpnn-world.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/SierraLeone.jpg 469w, https:\/\/english.cpnn-world.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/SierraLeone-300x191.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 469px) 100vw, 469px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nPhoto from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/womensforumsl.org\/\">facebook page of the Women\u2019s Forum Sierra Leone<\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>This conference, funded by Trocaire, brought together women and women\u2019s community based groups and Civil Society Organizations, across the sixteen Districts, with the aim of examining the strengths, opportunities and challenges affecting the women\u2019s movement in our country;\u00a0Reaffirming that \u2018Women\u2019s Rights are Human Rights\u2019 and the fundamental rights of all as enshrined in Chapter 3 of the 1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone, including the elimination of all forms discrimination against women.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>(Article continued in right column)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"float: right; width: 46%;\"><strong><em>Question for this article<\/em><\/strong><\/div>\n<div style=\"float: right; width: 46%;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"float: right; width: 46%;\">\n<p align=\"justify\">\n<p><em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/english.cpnn-world.org\/?p=11544\">Can the women of Africa lead the continent to peace?<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>(Article continued from left column)<\/p>\n<p>CGG Executive Director, Marcella Samba explained that effective women\u2019s participation in the democratic processes of any developing country is the foundation for good governance, gender equality and sustainable development;\u00a0Reminding the Government of Sierra Leone of its duty to protect and promote the rights and advancement of women and girls in Sierra Leone.\u00a0She applauded the efforts made over the past years by the various women and women led organizations to promote women\u2019s advancement, empowerment and access to basic socio-economic services, despite the challenges.\u00a0Also, appreciated the efforts and invaluable contributions made by the older women generation and urging the younger women generation to join the Women\u2019s Movement, with particular focus on making Sierra Leone a better place for all.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>President of 50\\50 group Dr Fatou Taqi acknowledged the challenges hampering the effective functioning, networking and collaboration of the Women\u2019s Movement from having a formidable voice for change and transformation.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>YWCA Sierra Leone National President, Bondu Manyeh welcomed the new initiative of self- assessment and internal reform.\u00a0Some of the recommendations in the communique were to ensure the promotion and strengthening of intergenerational dialogue among women and women\u2019 groups across the country, and reinvigorate all aspects of the Women\u2019s Forum Sierra Leone.\u00a0Also to develop and implement a clear road map of the roles and responsibilities of the Women\u2019s Forum of Sierra Leone and member organizations, and that emphasizes participation, communication, and empowerment of women.\u00a0To promote the culture of peace and tolerance among the various women\u2019s groups to improve interpersonal relationships and to solidify and achieve their economic, social, cultural, civil and political rights.\u00a0Also to Provide capacity building of women for women\u2019s groups for gender engagement and civic participation on a continuous basis.\u00a0However, some of these recommendations are expected to be actualized within a 5 years time span, disclosed CGG Program Director, Bernadette French<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>.
