Let\u2019s walk.\u201d\u00a0\u2013\u00a0Young-Soo Han.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>As the political situation on the Korean peninsula continues to shift,\u00a0our #WomenPeaceKorea: A New Era delegation with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nobelwomensinitiative.createsend1.com\/t\/r-l-jyklhkhy-l-r\/\">Women Cross DMZ\u00a0<\/a> spent the day demonstrating for peace and women\u2019s representation in the process.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"https:\/\/english.cpnn-world.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/DMZ.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/english.cpnn-world.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/DMZ.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"599\" height=\"438\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-12779\" srcset=\"https:\/\/english.cpnn-world.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/DMZ.jpg 599w, https:\/\/english.cpnn-world.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/DMZ-300x219.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 599px) 100vw, 599px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nPhoto courtesy of Women Cross DMZ<\/center><\/p>\n<p>Our delegation of 30 women security experts and feminist peace activists from aroundthe world participated in the second historic <a href=\"https:\/\/nobelwomensinitiative.createsend1.com\/t\/r-l-jyklhkhy-l-y\/\">\u00a0DMZ Peace Walk\u00a0<\/a> today in Paju, South Korea. They marched\u00a0alongside 1,200 South Korean women mobilizing for a peaceful resolution to the Korean conflict.<\/p>\n<p>(continued in right column)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"float: right; width: 46%;\">Question for this article:<\/div>\n<div style=\"float: right; width: 46%;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"float: right; width: 46%;\">\n<p align=\"justify\">\n<p><strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/english.cpnn-world.org\/?p=12616\">Can Korea be reunified in peace?<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>(continued from left column)<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThis strip of land symbolizes the longest division of a people, and it feels so amazing to be walking with 1,200 women to erase this division.\u201d\u00a0\u2013 Christine Ahn.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>During the opening ceremonies we heard from Young-Soo Han, President of the\u00a0National YWCA of Korea, about the significance of the march. The 5.5 km Peace Walk began by <a href=\"https:\/\/nobelwomensinitiative.createsend1.com\/t\/r-l-jyklhkhy-l-j\/\">\u00a0crossing the\u00a0Tongildaegyo\u00a0<\/a> (Unification Bridge). As we walked we were told that this was the first time civilians had actually\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nobelwomensinitiative.createsend1.com\/t\/r-l-jyklhkhy-l-t\/\">crossed the bridge on foot.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The march came just hours before it was announced that, despite American President Donald Trump\u2019s Thursday cancellation of June\u2019s Korea peace summit,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nobelwomensinitiative.createsend1.com\/t\/r-l-jyklhkhy-l-d\/\">South Korean President\u00a0Moon Jae-in\u00a0met with North Korean Chairman Kim Jong-un\u00a0<\/a> on the North side of the DMZ to continue talks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe time for peace has come. Peace can only come if the people build it. But peace also needs political leaders. So we call on Kim, Moon and Trump to sign a peace treaty for the people of Korea and for the world.\u201d\u00a0\u2013 Mairead Maguire.<\/p>\n<p>The Peace Walk ended in Dorasan Peace Park with a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nobelwomensinitiative.createsend1.com\/t\/r-l-jyklhkhy-l-h\/\">Women\u2019s Peace Walk Declaration\u00a0<\/a> reading and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nobelwomensinitiative.createsend1.com\/t\/r-l-jyklhkhy-l-k\/\">Peace Festival. <\/a> Nobel peace laureate, Mairead Maguire, also\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nobelwomensinitiative.createsend1.com\/t\/r-l-jyklhkhy-l-u\/\">spoke at the festival\u00a0<\/a> to highlight the power of civilian peacebuilders and call world leaders back to the negotiating table.<\/p>\n<p>(Thank you to Janet Hudgins, the CPNN reporter for this article.)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>DISARMAMENT &#038; SECURITY .
